Meet Our Board

Mark Morton, President

 Mark is a graduate of Northport Public School and currently serves as the Director of the Leland Township Library. He also serves as the President of the Leland Chamber of Commerce and Treasurer of the Northwest Skirmish Association. Mark’s longtime background is in manufacturing and computer information technology.

Mary Robertson, Vice President

 Mary has been a property owner in Leelanau Township since 1981 and a full time resident since 2020. She spent her early career as a loan officer for Comerica Bank before becoming an elementary school teacher in Detroit Public Schools and then a Kindermusik and piano teacher in Oakland County. After moving full time to Leelanau County, Mary served as Youth Services Coordinator at Suttons Bay Bingham District Library before retiring in 2022. She is a member of the Village Voices of Northport choir and a volunteer with the 5 loaves 2 fishes food program. Mary holds a B.A. from the College of Wooster and a M.A. in Teaching from Wayne State University.

Rick Gans, Treasurer

 Rick grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1972 with a bachelors degree with an Urban Studies major. Rick’s career was in advertising and film production. He spent 10 years working on film sets in many crew positions on varied commercial and entertainment projects. Marriage led to a more stable lifestyle and 7 ½ years working at an advertising agency in Chicago in their advertising production department. From there, Rick went to the corporate side in advertising production with stints at Kraft foods, Miller Brewing Company and Hasbro Toys and a brief stint as a marketing director at a dot com that went dot bomb. Rick began a consulting business in 2001, helping national advertisers produce their TV commercials cost effectively, helping them find new marketing partners through the RFI and RFP processes and advising on advertising agency compensation with his clients. He retired at the end of 2023. While raising two daughters with his wife Silvia in the suburbs of Chicago, Rick was a volunteer for the local public grammar school where he served on several committees. He was a part of strategic planning for the district as well as a founding director for a non-profit formed to support the school district. Rick and his wife, Silvia, have lived full time on Kehl Lake since 2009 and have two grown married daughters; one in Connecticut and one in Traverse City. Rick has been active with the Leelanau Conservancy almost since its founding, joining the Board of Directors in 2018.

Amanda Kruk, Secretary

 Amanda is the director of the Village Voices of Northport, our local community choir. She received a BA in Music from Oakland University in 2011. She began serving as a member of Northport Performing Arts Center board in 2023 and launched their new week-long summer Youth Musical Theatre Camp in 2024. She formerly served as the Vice President of the Friends of the Leelanau Township Library. Amanda lives year round in the village of Northport with her husband, Mike, their three kids, two cats and a dog.

Dale Lersch, Trustee

 Dale’s career has been in strategic planning and market research, graduating in market research from Wheaton College in Massachusetts. From family summers over generations, she was blessed to be able to build her home here and became a resident of Northport in 2016. During her research career, she served as both treasurer and chair of the Council of American Market Research Organizations. Currently, Dale serves as the Board Chair of ShareCare as well as participating in its Policy and Planning and Marketing subcommittees. She is a board trustee for the New Community Vision, a nonprofit devoted to obtaining a key property in Leelanau Township for a perpetual nature preserve with an adjacent property devoted to attainable housing. She also participates with the Communications and Marketing committee with the Leelanau Conservancy. Dale is a passionate reader and is devoted to: the liberal arts, to understanding how books broaden the mind, question the status quo and teach critical thinking.

Jamie Scripps, Trustee

 Jamie resides in the village of Northport and is the mother of two Northport Public School students, Jack and Nichol. She has earned her J.D. and a Bachelors in Education from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Leadership Studies from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. Jamie works as a consultant in energy policy and is married to Dan Scripps.
